As we close out 2014 and begin a new year we see mortgage rates slightly increasing. However, note that we are still seeing mortgage rates the lowest they’ve been in almost 19 months.
As reported by the Associated Press today, “Mortgage giant Freddie Mac says the nationwide average for a 30-year fixed rate mortgage increased to 3.87 percent this week, up from 3.83 percent last week. The rate hit 3.80 percent earlier this month, lowest since May 2013.”
With rates as low as they’ve been in almost two years, many would assume that the only direction they can go is up. For that reason, those interested in purchasing a new home might begin considering what options are available especially as the holiday season dies down.
